Whoever we are, we will become what is said about us.
David Williamson
This was taken from an interview on NPR. I have no idea what the
interview was about, who this guy was, or in what context the quote
occurred, but it struck me as oddly profound. There are at least two
possible meanings here. First, we believe what we hear and read, and so
the things that we hear and read about people - particularly public
figured - becomes fact to us. Second, perhaps more alarmingly, is the
way in which someone's entire reputation, and often their life, can be
altered or destroyed by a simple accusation, whether or not it is based
in reality.
Be very careful about what you say about people, and what
you pass on, unverified.
