I got remote control and a color T.V.
I don't change the channels so they must change me

Close to the Borderline -- Billy Joel

Television is truly frightening in its power to shape our collective consciousness. My fear of television falls into three broad categories. One, its ability to hold me mesmerized for absurd lengths of time while I experience negligible cerebral activity. Two, the unspoken assumption in our society that everyone is watching, and, thus, the assumption that you saw [whatever the show du jour is these days] last night, and the strange looks that one gets if you didn't. Third, the way that ideas put onto television shows become part of the way that we, as a nation, think about things, at an alarmingly fast rate, making us all too easy to brainwash and manipulate.

Anyways, rather than making this a soapbox (like I haven't already!) I encourage you to read my periodic rants in my journal.
